Back in 2016 the FPWC in collaboration with the Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) have organized the rescue of the lioness Mary and her cubs Zita and Geeta from Gyumri Private Zoo to the Caucasus Wildlife Refuge, a privately protected area managed by the FPWC.
The family has been living in horrific conditions, left without food and water that has resulted into numerous physical disorders and stereotypic behavior. The transfer of the last inhabitants of Gyumri Zoo was managed smoothly despite the unfavorable weather conditions on the big rescue day.
After spending a year in the Quarantine Station of a Wildlife Rescue Center in CWR, the lionesses have recovered, their health has drastically improved and the fur shined! Now they are as healthy and magnificent as a lion should be!
At the moment FPWC is negotiating to accommodate the lionesses in decent conditions in Armenia and will update on their final home destination very soon. Stay tuned for more updates!
